Referring to your letter of 5th. February, I
am directed to inform you that subject to the approval of the Secretary of State for the Colonies His Excellency the Governor is prepared to offer you a post as an Assistant Analyst in the Medical Department of this Colony on the following terus;- Salary:- £360 £420 by 230 triennially and a travelling allowance of $360 (mex) per annum.
Duties:- General analytical work including the sampling of metals
etc.
Passage:- First Class passage to Hongkong from Manila.
Terms:- An Agreement for three years after which if the Govern- -ment desire to retain your services and there is a vacancy you may be taken on the permanent establishment. In case you leave of your own accord or are dismissed for misconduct or inefficiency before the termination of your agreement you will be required to refund the cost of your passage from Manila to Hongkong. If you
are eventually taken on the permanent and pensionable establishment
your salary will be subject to a deduction of 4% on account of
Widows and Orphans Pensions.
Medical Examination:- You will be required to pass a satis-
-factory Medical examination in the Colony before appointment.

The Government has no objection to your marry-
-ing during the period of the agreement provided that you accept
all responsibility in the matter.
